Andrew Skilleter has a wealth of experience as a versatile professional image maker in the UK.

He currently lives in the Dorset countryside with his artist wife, working on a variety of commissions, commercial and private, publishing limited editions while selling his original art and pursuing new creative directions, including writing and a return to fantasy art. An advocate of the use of traditional techniques including, more recently, pencil and coloured pencil work, he uses his digital skills where appropriate.


He has produced hundreds of covers for adult, teenage and children's books across numerous genres. His work has also encompassed the illustration of many books, magazines, CDs and Audio, TV and Video and a long creative partnership with the BBC including for the Radio Collection covers for The Chronicles of Narnia, Brother Cadfael, Tolkein, Journey Into Space and with other BBC departments including visual entertainment and exhibitions.


His work has received critical attention with originals exhibited in London and nationwide and images included in the Association of Illustrator exhibitions and annuals. His originals are in numerous private collections in the UK, USA and Australia including the Penguin Art Collection.


He is best known publicly for his professional association with Doctor Who. Doctor Who art and the name of Andrew Skilleter became synonymous during the 1980s. He became well known for his lifelike portraits of the various TV Doctors which established his portraiture credentials. From 1979 to 1995 his work included the iconic 'The Five Doctors' Radio Times cover, over fifty book covers and video covers, books, calendars, prints and other merchandise. He continues to have a public profile in this area. He is also an official Star Wars artist and provided a substantial body of work for Gerry Anderson creations, including Thunderbirds.


In the 1980s he founded Who Dares Publishing. In addition to the Doctor Who calendars and merchandise, he published a number of book titles for the UK and USA, including the classic 'Cybermen' book, now voted one of the best ever Who books and the highly praised 'The Man Who Drew Tomorrow', a profusely illustrated biography of Frank Hampson, the creator of Dan Dare.


Blacklight : The Art of Andrew Skilleter, a large format, colour hardback written by the artist was published by Virgin in 1995, showcasing his work. Ivanhoe, his first work as author/illustrator for children, was published as a deluxe hardback in 1997. In 2005, a DVD devoted to Andrew and his work was released by Reeltime Pictures.
